CONCERTO ITALIANO’s revelatory interpretations have revolutionised the perception of 17th and 18th century Italian  music (their ground-breaking recordings of Monteverdi’s madrigals have achieved international benchmark status), establishing itself with critics and audiences as the finest ensemble of its kind in Italy today. Moving on from the madrigal repertoire, in addition to its vibrant performances and recordings of familiar baroque masterpieces, Rinaldo Alessandrini’s ensemble has also reclaimed for modern audiences works that have languished in obscurity for centuries. The ensemble’s current schedule features sacred music by Handel, Scarlatti, Legrenzi, Vivaldi, Melani, Pergolesi and Stradella; instrumental works by Bach, Vivaldi, Corelli, Geminiani, Locatelli and Rossini; vocal music by Monteverdi, Marenzio, De Wert, Charpentier, Nenna and De Monte…

Last realizations were Monteverdi Vespers, Brandenburg Concertos and Monteverdi “Poppea” in Salamanca in a new staged edition, complete 6th and 8th books  of  Madrigals by Monteverdi in France, Spain and Italy and a one-year-long tour with Monteverdi Orfeo in Italy, Belgium and Spain, recording and performance of Pergolesi “Missa Romana” and Scarlatti “Xmas Mass” during the opening concert of the Resonanzen festival in Wien; a spectacular Monteverdi cicle of 5 concerts including all books of madrigals at Edinburgh Festival; Vivaldi “Armida” with concerts in Paris and Wien, a dvd recording of both version of Vivaldi “Gloria”, Antonio Bononcini “Stabat Mater” and “Messa” in Wien.
Concerto Italiano has been also involved in the complete Monteverdi opera cycle at La Scala (Milano) and Opera Garnier (Paris) during 2009/2016 with the stage director Bob Wilson.
Concerto Italiano just made his debut in Australia and New Zealand performing Monteverdi Vespers.
Future engagements see Concerto Italiano and RIAS Kammerchor touring a monumental program of roman sacred music, a second European tour performing A. Scarlatti oratorio “Caino”. In 2017 they will be touring Monteverdi music all over the world, performing 1610 Vespers, Orfeo and Poppea, including China and Japan.

Concerto Italiano record exclusively for Naïve. Recent releases include Monteverdi Orfeo, a collection of sacred music by A.Scarlatti, Monteverdi complete Eight Book and Bach Brandeburg  Concertos. Monteverdi 1610 Vespers and Selva Morale e Spirituale.  The impressive array of critical awards received for these recordings confirms the outstanding quality of their performances, now recognised as a unique force in the interpretation of seventeenth and eighteenth century music.  These include 5 Gramophone Awards (the only Italian ensemble to have been thus honoured), 10 Diapasons d’Or and 2 Diapason d’Or de l’année, 2 Deutscher Schallplattenpreis, 12 10 de Rèpertoire awards,  9 Choc de la Musique – including the Choc de l’année, the Cannes Classical Award – Disque de l’Annèe, Le Monde’s Disques de l’Année 1995 and 1997, Premio Vivaldi (Fondazione Cini), the Grand Prix de la Nouvelle Academie de Disque and Grand Prix de l’Academie Charles Cros, Prix Caecilia and Amadeus’ Disco dell’anno 1998. Bach Brandenburg Concertos recording has been awarded by BBC Musica Magazine as the best version ever recorded. The group has been also awarded in Italy with the Premio Abbiati in 2003.
