| As a graduate from the Tokyo National University of Music and Fine Arts, Yuki Kakiuchi completed his training in Europe, where he studied orchestral conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Trained by the greatest conductors such as Seiji Ozawa, Leopold Hager, Jorma Panula, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Isaac Karabtchevsky and Kotaro Sato. After receiving the City of Brasov Prize in 2006, he made his debut in Europe and conducted, among others, the Brasov Philharmonic Orchestra (Romania), the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Salzburg Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, the World Youth Orchestra, and returned to his first love in conducting the Osaka Symphony Orchestra. In September 2011, the young conductor with promising talent, aged 33, won the 52nd Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors and obtained the favour of the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra that he conducted during the competition. “It was absolutely magical to compete with the musicians of the Brussels Philharmonic, as well as with the soloists, all very talented. I thank them all for this” has declared Yuki Kakiuchi at the award ceremony. The Jury, chaired by Sir Andrew Davis, Musical Director of the Lyric Opera of Chicago, as well as the press, was unanimous and literally praised his performance. “For the second consecutive time, the winner of the competition is Japanese and I think that the 1959’s winner, Seiji Ozawa, has something to do with it: he has been teaching year after year in his country, where the level of the young conductors continues to rise” has underlined Bernard Sertout, President of the Festival. During the season 11/12, Yuki Kakiuchi had his debut with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra at the Suntory Hall and at the Bunkamura Orchard Hall in Tokyo. He performed at the great venue of the Saint Petersburg Philharmonia with their Symphony Orchestra, and conducted the Bordeaux Aquitaine National Orchestra, the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra and the Műnster Symphony Orchestra. In 2012 Kakiuchi toured with the Brussels Philharmonic in Belgium and in France. From April 2016 he is guest conductor of the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra. 2017/2018 This biography is for website use only.
