Zemlinsky: String Quartet No. 2
“The ensemble offered a passionate rendition, conveying the full spectrum of grief and turbulence in this 40-minute work of Wagnerian proportions. Each member of the group played with a glowing tone and insightful musicianship, resulting in a characterful whole.”

The Strad, April 2009 | Julian Haylock
“Play with such radiant sincerity and consummate skill.”

The Times – Picayune, January 2009 | Chris Waddington
“Winning coaches often talk about the teamwork, execution and the need to focus on fundamentals. They might just as well be explaining the success of the Escher String Quartet, which has skyrocketed to the top ranks of the classical world since forming in 2005.”
“It was clear that the group’s tonal precision and unanimous phrasing was hardly an emotional straitjacket. The trust fostered by so much careful preparation, seemed to encourage playing of savage intensity, full of throbbing bass figures, sudden pauses and powerful down-bowed unison lines.”

The New York Times, September 2008 | Vivien Schweitzer
Shostakovich: Prelude and Scherzo for Double String Quartet
“An explosive performance that was the highlight of the evening”

Record Review, April 2008 | Catherine Gillet
“The Escher Quartet transports and engages the imagination with a finesse both delicate and powerful.”

New York times, 4. March 2008 | Vivien Schweitzer
"The individual and sometime concertolike playing of the four musicicians was notable for its polish and tonal beauty"

San Francisco Chronicle, 25 July 2007 | Joshua Koshman
" The Group combined ripe tonal balances with the kind of heedless intensity that comes with youth"

San Jose Mercury News, 25 July 2007 | Richard Scheinin
" (The Escher's) sound is golden-ripe, and its performance was technically almost infallible, cool-edged, yet pulsing like an engine of a luxury car...the night's biggest pleasure."

The New York Sun, 4. December 2007 Fred Kirshnin
" In this most gorgeous of string writing, the (Escher) seemed right at home."

Metro Active | Scott MacClelland
"The Escher String Quartet's performace burnished Mendelssohn's intelligent designs with subtly expressive nuance"
