Tim Vogler | Violin Frank Reinecke | Violin Stefan Fehlandt | Viola Stephan Forck | Cello Individuality that unfolds in the collective - this is probably the secret of the Vogler Quartet, which has been pursuing a unique career worldwide in an unchanged line-up since 1985 and will celebrate its 35th quartet anniversary in 2020. First prize at the 1986 Evian String Quartet Competition made the East German ensemble from Berlin's Hanns Eisler Academy of Music internationally famous just one year after its founding. Eberhard Feltz, György Kurtág and the LaSalle Quartet, especially Walter Levin, became formative mentors. Chamber music greats such as Lynn Harrell, Bernard Greenhouse or Menahem Pressler were among the musical partners, as were Jörg Widmann, David Orlowsky, Daniel Müller-Schott or Ute Lemper. The extensive repertoire of "classical" quartet literature from Haydn to the Second Viennese School is expanded with lesser-known or unusual works (such as the five-hour quartet by Morton Feldman) and new music, often including world premieres. The four musicians feel just as much at home in European music centres as they do in North America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. Their own concert series (since 1993 in Berlin's Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt and since 2000 in Neubrandenburg) and the artistic direction of the chamber music festivals in Sligo, Ireland (since 2000) and in Homburg/ Saar (since 2002) are permanent fixtures in the annual calendar. The quartet members teach as professors at the universities in Frankfurt, Leipzig, Stuttgart and Berlin and give master classes in Europe and overseas. In the field of music education, the quartet is one of the most active German chamber music ensembles, with projects for children and young people in Sligo, children's concerts of the Berlin Senate and, since 2005, the award-winning Nordhessische Kindermusiktage in Kassel. The Vogler Quartet's discography includes works by Brahms, Schumann, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Reger, Schulhoff, K.A. Hartmann, clarinet quintets by Mozart and Golijov with David Orlowsky, and a tango album with the bandoneonist Marcelo Nisinman. The CD "Paris Days - Berlin Nights" with Ute Lemper and Stefan Malzew received a Grammy nomination. A complete recording of the Dvořák quartets is currently being made for the cpo label (four CDs are already available). At the beginning of 2021, two new albums were released on the Capriccio label with works by Georgi Catoire (Piano Quintet op. 28 and Piano Quartet op. 31 with Oliver Triend) and Grigori Frid ("Phaedra" op. 78,1 and Piano Quintet op. 72 with Elisaveta Blumina). A book entitled "A World on Sixteen Strings - Conversations with the Vogler Quartet" (Berenberg Verlag) and a CD box with live recordings of the anniversary season of the Konzerthaus series with works by Henze, Kagel, Weill, Widmann, Respighi, Abril and Chausson were published to mark the 30th anniversary. 2021/2022 This biography is for website use only.
