Full Biography
Highly regarded as one of the most imaginative, cultured, deep and talented Italian conductors of our time, Tito Ceccherini is becoming a reference for modern repertoire: "Tito Ceccherini et l'Orchestre de Francfort en donnaient une version éblouissante du Chant du Rossignol d'Igor Stravinsky, tant sur le plan des timbres et de l'équilibre sonore que dans les ressorts de la dramaturgie, prolongeant d'autant l'aura magique de cette soirée d'exception" - so did Res Musica write after his concert with the HR-Sinfonieorchester at the Festival d'Automne in Paris.

An advocate of contemporary music, he boasts an intense collaboration with composers such as Giorgio Battistelli, Hugues Dufourt, Ivan Fedele, Philippe Hurel, Salvatore Sciarrino, etc. Highlights of the many world premieres include the posthumous performance of Seven by Niccolò Castiglioni, several of the latest operas by Salvatore Sciarrino (Lohengrin 2, Da gelo a gelo, Superflumina), and Fenelon's La Cerisaie at the Bolshoi Theatre and at the Opéra de Paris.

The founder of ensemble «Risognanze», he regularly performed masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire from Debussy to our days, and recorded works by Sciarrino, Castiglioni, Grisey.

Ceccherini has conducted major orchestras including the BBC Symphony, HR-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt, SWR Stuttgart, Tokyo Philharmonic, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, Orchestra del Teatro La Fenice, Orchestra del Teatro San Carlo, Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, OSI Lugano, Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and celebrated ensembles such as Klangforum Wien, Contrechamps, etc. He has conducted in major venues and international festivals, such as the Berlin Philharmonie, Tokyo Suntory Hall, St. Petersbourg Philharmonic Hall, the Lingotto in Turin, Cité de la Musique, Festival d'Automne, Schwetzingen Festspiele, Münchner Biennale, Musica in Strasbourg.

In August 2012 he made his debut at the Lucerne Festival in "Pollini Perspectives", with Klangforum Wien and the Neue Vocalsolisten, a project later presented in Tokyo (Suntory Hall), Paris (Salle Pleyel), Berlin (Philharmonie) and Milano (Teatro alla Scala). Also in 2012 he opened the splendid new Festspielhaus in Erl (Austria), with a highly praised performance of Bartók's Bluebeard's Castle.

His wide operatic repertoire ranges from De Majo's Alessandro (1765), through Italian Belcanto (Bellini's Puritani, Donizetti's Maria Stuarda, etc), Puccini (Turandot), and Strauss (Guntram, Ariadne auf Naxos), up to several world premieres, which he conducted in theatres such as Opéra National in Paris, Bolshoi Theatre, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro Bellini in Catania.

Tito Ceccherini wonderfully delivered the dramatic soul of Donizetti. The orchestra playing with elegance, concentration and warmth, he offered an interpretation remarkably characterized by its accents and contrasts and by the clear outlining of musical figures. Ceccherini showed a developed sense for colours and nuances and flexibility in accompanying the singers (Die Rheinpfalz, about Maria Stuarda's performance in Mannheim).

Highlights of the current season include his début with the Philharmonia Orchestra, as well as débuts with the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma Orchestra and Real Orquesta Sinfonica of Seville; and return engagements with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Klangforum Wien, Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi and Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, among others.
As an opera conductor, he returns to the Theâtre du Capitole de Toulouse (Bartók’s Duke Bluebeard’s Castle, Dallapiccola’s Il prigioniero, Berlioz’s Béatrice et Bénédict, Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail); and conducts Don Pasquale at the Opéra de Rennes, Die Zauberflöte and La traviata at the Tiroler Festspiele and The Rake’s Progress at the Frankfurter Oper.

Ceccherini's recordings (Amadeus, Col legno, Kairos, Stradivarius) have been greatly acclaimed from audience and press, and awarded with "Choc" du Monde de la Musique and Diapason d'Or. The recording of Sciarrino's Lohengrin (Col legno) has been awarded at the MIDEM CLASSICAL AWARDS.

Active as a teacher in Europe and Japan, he's member of the Accademia di Montegral. He is in charge of the Chair of Conducting at Landeskonservatorium Innsbruck and collaborates regularly with the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris.
